Dinner rolls help to complete any decent family meal, but instead of some fresh, homemade ones, the frozen dinner rolls can! You’re not going to believe how easy it is to make rolls, and once you hop into the kitchen and try them out, you’re never going to go back to the mediocre store with the labels. They’re light and buttery and far superior to any pre-baked rolls.

  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons Red Star Platinum yeast (1 standard packet)
  • 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup (60g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature and cut into 4 pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups (400g) all-purpose flour or bread flour (spoon & leveled)*
  • optional topping: 2 Tablespoons melted unsalted butter mixed with 1 Tablespoon honey

Slightly oily, but still very soft and pliable, should be the dough. It really shouldn’t stick to the bowl at all. Your rolls can also get a little stiff if you apply too much flour and the dough stiffens. I like to suggest that by just rubbing the dough, you can feel a smooth roll.
